MODLAN INTELLIGENCE RESOURCE · BRIEF
WARC, MHTML, PDF and Media Exports: Different Views of the Same Web Evidence
A public-safe guide to common web-evidence output formats and why derivative review files should remain distinguishable from source-preservation artifacts.
WARC
WARC is designed for web archiving and can package web resources for later replay or archival handling. It is useful when preserving web structure matters.
MHTML
MHTML packages a page and related resources into a browser-readable archive that can preserve useful rendered context for review.
PDF and OCR
PDF is convenient for human review and production, while OCR can make visible text searchable. A review PDF should be treated as a derivative rather than silently replacing the original acquired material.
Video and rich media
Dynamic and audiovisual content may require native media acquisition or contextual screen recording. The acquisition record should state what was preserved and what the method could not capture.
